Hamblin Prize

Terry Hamblin

The Hamblin Prize was established in 2008 in honour of Professor Terry Hamblin, the founder of the UK CLL Forum. Given his major contributions to the CLL literature, both as author and editor, it was felt that this prize should be awarded for the best CLL-related publication from a UK-based group in the previous year.

2009 Winner

Gillian G. Johnson for her article 'A Novel Type of p53 Pathway Dysfunction in Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Resulting from Two Interacting Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms within the p21 Gene'. Published in Cancer Research 2009; 69:(12). June 15

Catovsky Prize



The annual Catovsky prize (£500) was established in 2006 by the UK CLL Forum in recognition of the outstanding contribution that Professor Daniel Catovsky has made to the field of clinical and scientific CLL research. All non-tenured CLL researchers are invited to submit an abstract of their research work for consideration by the UK CLL Forum Executive committee. The four highest scoring abstracts are selected for 15 minute oral presentation at the annual educational meetingr. A panel chaired by Professor Pettitt will then select the winning applicant based on these presentations.

2010 Winner

Dr Victoria Weston is a post-doctoral scientist who has been working for several years in Professor Tanja Stankovic's group in Birmingham at the School of Cancer Sciences. She won the 2010 Catovsky prize for her and Dr Oldreive's paper entitled 'The PARP inhibitor olaparib induces significant killing of ATM deficient lymphoid tumour cells in vitro and in vivo.' She works on targeted treatments in lymphoid leukaemias. She intends to share her prize money with her co-author and put the rest towards decorating her new house!
