Grants and Prizes

Hamblin Prize

Terry Hamblin

The Hamblin Prize was established in 2008 in honour of Professor Terry Hamblin, the founder of the UK CLL Forum. Given his major contributions to the CLL literature, both as author and editor, it was felt that this prize should be awarded for the best CLL-related publication from a UK-based group in the previous year.

Catovsky Prize

The Catovsky Prize was established in 2006 in honour of Prof Daniel Catovsky who has contributed so much to CLL research both in the UK and internationally. The intention of the prize is to encourage young investigators to become involved in the UK-CLL Forum and provide a forum for them to present their work.

The 2008 Catovsky Prize was won by Dr Mieke Vogler for her paper entitled “Modelling the cellular microenvironment and expression of CBCL2A1 induces resistance to ABT-737” . Dr Vogler is a postdoctoral scientist who works on mechanisms of apoptosis in the laboratory of Prof Gerald Cohen in the MRC Toxicology Unit at the University of Leicester. She obtained her PhD in 2006 from the University of Ulm and tells us that she plans to spend at least some of the money on a diving trip to the Red Sea.
